Bankers on the Move David Bastian, a 40-year mortgage industry veteran, has been hired by Bank of Utah to serve on its Redwood Road branch lending team. Bastian has worked in various mortgage industry capacities throughout his long career including most recently as a residential mortgage originator for Liberty Bank of Utah. He specialized in Home Start down payment assistance grants and other options for first-time home- buyers. He also speaks Spanish. Thomas Etzel has been promoted to Zions Bank’s executive vice president and director of corporate banking. Etzel will fo- cus on growing the bank’s corporate lending presence along the Wasatch Front as well as in Boise, Idaho. Paula Fryland will be accepting executive management respon- sibilities over Middle Market Banking at Zions Bank, which will also include leading the bank’s Utah Ag Lending division and Credit Corporation. Cory Gardiner has been named new executive vice president and director of consumer and business banking at Zions Bank. She will oversee more than 50 financial centers in three coun- ties. Gardiner began her career with Zions Bank in 2004 as a manager of the Odgen financial center on Harrison Boulevard. Mike Griffiths has been promoted to president of Zions Bank’s South Davis/Capital Retail Region. He will be responsible for managing operations and business development at 13 financial centers in Davis and Salt Lake counties. Brooke L. Heym has been appointed to the position of mortgage loan officer at Bank of Utah’s Redwood Road Branch. She has more than 20 years of management experience with a proven track record for developing an efficient staff of any size. She excels in consumer lending, business-to-business management and research, making her a great fit for her new position with Bank of Utah. Heym previously was the residential mortgage loan officer at Liberty Bank Inc. and manager of research center operations at Opinion Dynamics Corp. Lisa Mariano has been appointed to serve as the senior trust officer in personal trust for Bank of Utah. In her new position, she will oversee oper- ations and manage day-to-day trust department functions at the Salt Lake City and Ogden trust offices. “We’re very pleased to see Lisa advance in her career with the bank,” said Douglas L. DeFries, Bank of Utah president. “She has a wonderful reputation in the legal community where many trust referrals originate. Bank of Utah has benefitted from her expertise and positive attitude for the past few years.” Rick Robinson , Richfield Financial Center Manager, received the 2017 Roy W. Simmons Award at Zions Bank’s annual Excel- lence Awards dinner in Salt Lake City. This prestigious award is a symbol of selfless dedication and commitment to banking customers, and is named after Zions Bancorporation’s founder. Phill Wright has been hired by Bank of Utah to serve as a vice president and mortgage area manager at the bank’s new Bountiful branch. Wright is an accomplished senior executive, with more than 30 years of success in the financial and mortgage industries. Throughout his career, Wright has held leadership positions and been a top producer at various financial institutions including mortgage companies, banks, savings and loans and a credit union. n Issue 3. 2017 27
